Greg Hardy's Terrifying Run Through The Regional MMA Heavyweight Circuit Continued This Weekend, And It Got Scarier Than Ever

A few quick things to start:

1. What a horrendous stoppage. I mean, what are we waitin’ for, there, ref? When those hammerfists are raining down at 110mph and hitting that defenseless dude right in his temple, you don’t have to wait until he’s completely unconscious to call it.

2. I didn’t even notice the stoppage being slightly off until my third or forth watching of this video. How, you ask? How could I, someone who considers himself to know a thing or two about mixed martial arts, not immediately pick up on that? Well, I was frozen in shock and fear upon my first, second, and third viewings of this knockout. You know that scene in The Walking Dead where Negan just bashes Glenn’s skull in with that baseball bat covered in barbed wire until you literally can’t even tell he was once a human being? And all of his friends are just frozen, defenseless, and in complete states of shock with thousand-yard stares sitting around him? That was me.

3. We should lock this lunatic up if for nothing but this little move he pulls after the fight:

He’s not the first fighter to react that way to a victory inside a mixed martial arts cage, and he ain’t gonna be the last, but jeez – I can’t remember the last time I physically feared a fighter’s presence as much as I do Greg Hardy’s right now. Something about the combination of him having the ability to knock anybody in the world out with one punch, and also not being able to control his own aggression, and also being a monstrous human being found guilty of disgusting counts of domestic violence just does that for me. Somebody mentioned this on Reddit yesterday, and I thought it was good enough to share – his regional heavyweight run right now feels like the Clubber Lang montage at the beginning of Rocky III. Every time you turn my head he just got done knocking out another poor son of a bitch and causing a scene.

I am TERRIFIED of Hardy, and I think he could be a real problem for heavyweights at even the highest level in not too much time.

Sure, we’ve yet to see the former football player face a truly great wrestler, or submission artist, or…striker…or – LOOK, we haven’t seen him face anyone truly great. He’s really only faced schmucks. But he’s showing just how heavy his hands are, and just much high-level NFL athleticism translates to the octagon – which is apparently – A LOT. If his progress continues at the rate it’s at right now, things are going to get REALLY scary in about two years. Maybe less.

Of course, because I’m a decent human being, I hope his progress halts completely, and he gets his shit kicked in as soon as humanely possible, keeping this piece of garbage as far away from our sport as possible, but things aren’t looking great on that front right now.

Hardy is currently signed to a developmental deal with the UFC, where they have the option to enable his contract to their roster whenever both sides feel fit.
