It's Happening. It's Finally (Probably) Happening. The Hartford Whalers Jersey Is Making Its Highly Anticipated Comeback

Press play and enjoy the following:

There are very few logos in the history of sports as iconic as the Hartford Whalers. The colors. The hidden “H” and “W” within the logo. The Whalers logo combined with a little bit of Brass Bonanza represents everything that used to be right in the world.  It was a much simpler time back then but the world was rocked in 1997 when the Whalers were ripped out of Hartford and shipped down to Raleigh to become the Carolina Hurricanes.

Now obviously today’s news is going to sting a little for those in the Hartford area considering the fact that a jersey unveiling still won’t bring a team back to their city. But for everybody else in the world? We’ve yearned and yearned for this moment for quite some time now. Everywhere you go there are people who have been dying for the Whale to return. Women. Children. War veterans. Your wife’s boyfriend. There’s not a single person outside of the city of Hartford who hasn’t been waiting for this day to come. And today? Well it sure as heck seems like that moment is finally here.

So let’s just call a spade a spade here. Clearly this is going to be some marketing campaign intended to be a cash grab by the Carolina Hurricanes. If you’re ever strapped for money, just bring back the Whalers logo and you’ll be swimming in cash because people can’t get enough of the logo. So let’s not go around pretending like the Carolina Hurricanes are about to drop this jersey out of the kindness of their hearts. But does it really matter? Heck no. Because that’s America, baby. That’s capitalism. People want the Hartford Whalers logo back in their lives and it sure as shit sounds like the Carolina Hurricanes are ready to give it to them. I don’t know how and I don’t know why. But you don’t get those two tweets for no reason at all. Where there is smoke, there is fire. And where there is fire, there is water to put out that fire. And where there is water, there are whales swimming in that water. And where there are whales, there are Whalers there to poach them. I understand that kind of took a dark turn there but you have to remember that Whalers aren’t the cute and cuddly looking whale mascots. They’re the people who kill the whales. But still. The logo is kick ass and as long as the Hurricanes bring back the original colors instead of just bringing back the logo with their red/black colorway, then today is about to be a monumental day in the National Hockey League. But seriously. If they bring back the logo in red and black I am going to be friggin’ peeved.
