Drones Being Used To Track Escaped Florida Kangaroo

Post Thumbnail: 1100307

A runaway kangaroo in South Florida has wildlife officers sending up a pair of drones to help search for a second day.

Owner Eric Westergard describes Storm as 4 feet tall and 45 pounds, with tawny fur, black paws and a powerful long tail.

A post apocalyptic nightmare scenario is developing in Florida today as authorities bring in drones to help in the search for an escaped kangaroo named Storm. I have been watching this story closely since Storm hopped away from what is described as a “Kangaroo Sanctuary” in Jupiter Farms, FL (A.K.A. a Florida man’s backyard). More than a dozen officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are working round the clock to locate the buck. They have been joined by state troopers and local law enforcement in what seems to be an appropriate allocation of resources.

Running away is out of character for the five-year-old marsupial; he is known to never leave the side of his best kangaroo friend Avalanche. Which begs the question, what happened? Did Storm and Avalanche have an argument about something? Was there a a falling out with Storm and the other kangaroos in the sanctuary (backyard)? Was the sanctuary raided by local teenagers? Luckily upwards of twenty Florida government employees are on the case and can help bring us some answers.

Probable Australia enthusiast and caretaker of the roo, Eric Westergard, is reportedly devastated and is having difficulty focusing on his day job as a roofer, a job which in my opinion requires at least a small amount of attention. When interviewed by local media about why Storm may have run away he said  “sometimes they get spooked,” and “he is is laid-back unless he’s startled.” – which is why tracking the Kangaroo with two noisy drones seem like the perfect plan.

I have hope that between the Wildlife Commission, state troopers, local police, the drone team, and local volunteers, Storm will be found soon. At which point the plan is to shoot him with a tranquilizer dart according to authorities.
