I Fell Asleep On Saturday Night And Woke Up in 2007

I joked about it on Twitter over the weekend, but it’s true. We’re a Kentucky football blog. That’s what happens when you have both Tyler and I here. Tyler, as only Whiskers could, talked about the worst dream he had on Saturday.

Well, I have good news for my good friend Tyler. I also had a dream Saturday night. Actually, I should rephrase that. I had something different. I time traveled on Saturday night. I had a beautiful day. Hung out with friends, drank some beer, Uber driver was randomly blasting B.O.B. by Outkast, Tiger was doing Tiger things. It felt like old times and not being 31 with a bad back.

Then on Sunday things felt weird. Eli was damn near perfect. There wasn’t someone named Ereck Flowers on the Giants offensive line. I had to glance around and wonder where I was. Because while all that was weird, the AP college football top-25 poll came out. As I tend to do I took a glance and wanted to see where everyone was.

I was befuddled. There was a team at No. 17 named Kentucky with a 4-0 record. That seems low for Kentucky basketball. Good to see Shaka getting things going at Texas though.

Wait a minute I thought. It’s only September. I know I was blogging about college basketball recently, but I didn’t watch any games. It couldn’t be. Was it football? Well it sure as hell was! That means I had to time travel. You see the last time Kentucky was ranked was 2007. That explains B.O.B being blasted. That explains Tiger. That explains Eli. Had to be. The bar I was at was a portal to the past. Luckily I wasn’t dressed like I did back in 2007. It was bad, I almost posted a picture but couldn’t handle the ribbing I’d receive.

So here we are. In 2018 with Kentucky football at 4-0 and No. 17 in the country. Two of the wins are as a 13.5 and 9.5 point underdog. Those also happen to be two SEC wins. I have been pretty outspoken about my thoughts on Mark Stoops as the head coach. He was great Sunday-Friday, meaning he knew how to sell the program and he could recruit. But, there was always something about in-game stuff that made me (and a lot of Kentucky fans) frustrated. They couldn’t seem to get that big home win. There was always some dumb mistake that should have been caught. There was just always something.

That hasn’t happened yet this year. Perhaps it’s him getting even more of his guys into the system and feeling more comfortable. But, he’s starting to go for the killshot offensively. They are avoiding that dreaded game-changing mistake. The breaks are going Kentucky’s way. It’s been one of the best coaching jobs in football I’ve seen in recent memory through a small sample size. But, Kentucky is actually staring at a possible 11-1 season. If they beat South Carolina this week, Kentucky will be favored in every game except vs Georgia and likely at Missouri and Texas A&M. Those two are winnable games though.

I wonder if Texas is still back though. Tough to be back and be behind Kentucky in football. I’ll let Kash Daniel take it away
