Fox News – Music, golf and fish – lots and lots of fish. That’s how Steve and Jamie Lloyd, founders of Naples Take a Soldier Fishing, ended their 11th annual three-day event that brought nearly 150 soldiers together in Florida.

“It was great,” Jamie Lloyd said in an interview with Fox News.

And because of Hurricane Irma last year, this time around, the event was bigger than ever.

“We have to cancel because of Hurricane Irma last year, so we had a surplus of funds,” she said. “So we spent it on another night for the soldiers.”

The pair said around 145 to 150 soldiers participated in the weekend fishing event — about ten more than they usually have.

Turns out not everyone down in Florida is smoking too much crack and then getting arrested after running around their trailer park naked. Steve and Jamie Lloyd should be damn proud of the incredible event they’ve been putting on down in Naples.

You can see some video and pictures from the 2016 event here. This year’s event was their biggest one yet, with nearly 150 soldiers participating in the tournament, and I can’t imagine how much fun these real life heroes had while they got to enjoy a weekend of golf, fishing, free meals, and what looks like a few giant parties over the duration of the 3-day event.

Although there’s no cash prize for the winners, they get to leave the event with bragging rights amongst their peers and a nice trophy. Anytime I hear a story about people going out of their way to do shit like this and make active military members or even veterans feel like the heroes and rockstars they are, it just makes me feel good inside. I wish there was more shit like this going on all the time. These guys deserve the royal treatment everywhere they go for the sacrifices they’ve made and will continue to make in their lives.

After the tournament is through, Steve and Jamie Lloyd spend the rest of the year fundraising so they can keep this tradition going and enable the event to get bigger and bigger each year.
