City Of Brotherly Bugs: Philly Bus Infestation Video Made Me Throw Up In My Mouth A Little

If you’re squeamish & terrified of bugs like I am and happen to ride public transpo like I do, this video is not for you. But also if you’re like me, you’ll watch it anyway, feel like they’re crawling all over you for the rest of the night dreading your next commute & be full of regrets:

From a Philly Voice interview with SEPTA (Southeastern PA Transportation Authority):

“When we received a report like this, the vehicle is immediately pulled from service and sent to an exterminator,” SEPTA spokesperson John Golden said. “We followed this process upon receiving this report.”

Golden, it turns out, was referring to separate incident on Tuesday afternoon — that one on a Route R bus. Another rider provided SEPTA with a video of bed bugs on a bus driving along Hunting Park Avenue and Fox Street in Northwest Philadelphia.

In both incidents, the buses were cleared of passengers immediately after the driver was notified, according to SEPTA officials.

Given, these bugs are notoriously difficult to eliminate but I’m wondering how it got to that point before people noticed. That wasn’t just one or two – it looked like there had to be thousands. After a little research I learned that bed bugs generally only lay about one egg per day & it takes about 7 weeks to go from egg to adult. So for there to be that amount I’d say this bus had to have gone months without fumigation or a thorough cleaning. People deserve better than that. Because my God, the nightmares I’d be having forever if I were on that route… As for the buses currently infested:
