Maryland Out Rushed Bowling Green 444 to 15, Cruise To 45-14 Win To Improve To 2-0

Just look at the numbers, it’s true folks. The Terps absolutely ran all over Bowling Green and improve to 2-0 with a 45-14 win. They went into halftime down 14-10, and then they decided it was time to establish the run, and boy did they do that. The Terps shutout Bowling Green in the second half and really put the game way with 28 in the 4th quarter. After handing Texas a big loss last week, the Terps did not lay a stinker in Week 2.

The spread the wealth as well, 4 players had 69 or more yards, with each of those guys getting 8 or more carries. Ty Johnson lead the way with 12 carries and 124 yards plus a tuddy. A cool 10.3 yard average wasn’t terrible. Johnson led the Terps in rushing yards last year with 875 yards and a 6.4 yard per carry average, so he’s picking up right where he left off. Sophomore Tayon Fleet-Davis was right behind Johnson with 15 carries and 102 on the ground with 2 scores. Lolo Harrison was right there as well with his 8 carries for 86 yards, a 10.8 YPC average and a score. Anthony McFarland had a nice day as well, 8 carries and 69 yards rushing. Javon Leake added in 3 carries for a 42 yards and a score, that breaks down to 14 a carry, not too shabby at all by the Terps on the ground.

Bowling Green tried, and that is the most important part. Andrew Clair led them with 16 carries and 44 yards, but quarterback, Jarret Doege was sacked 5 times and since college football is strange, that goes against his rushing yards, so he chipped in a -42 yards rushing.

As a team, the Terps averaged 8.4 yards per touch on the ground, and that is great, that is what you need to do when you’re down at halftime and need to stage a comeback. Last week against Texas wasn’t their best effort on the ground, they had 46 carries for 143 yards which breaks down to a 3.1 YPC average, that is gross. No Terp gained more than 31 yards against Texas, it was a completely different story against Bowling Green.

After it’s rocky offseason in which they had a teammate die following a seizure at practice, the Terps led by an interim coach are 2-0 and haven’t played a home game yet, that will change next week when Temple makes their way down Route 1 for their beating in College Park.
