Daniel Craig Signs On To 'Knives Out'

(FSR) “Moving from secret agent to detective, Bond star Daniel Craig has been cast in Knives Out. Writer/director Rian Johnson describes the project as a “contemporary murder mystery” and plans on making the film before returning to Star Wars to direct the franchise’s newest trilogy after Star Wars: Episode IX. Johnson wrote the original screenplay for Knives Out and will produce the movie along with longtime partner Ram Bergman (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Looper).”

I’d love to see Craig playing a detective, but I’m also a little tentative based on how Johnson described the character: “He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new [Hercule] Poirot.”

I know the 1974 adaptation of ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ was well received, but last years version was so, sooooo bad that I really don’t want to see any smarmy-ass detectives for a while. I’d prefer to see him more like Bond or maybe even his portrayal of Mikael Blomkvist in ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’. He for certain has comedy chops (see ‘Logan Lucky’), but I would love to see him as a really dark and looming detective. Maybe something like ‘Seven’?

That would rock. I’m not sure if Johnson would make something even close to that dark, though. I’ll give you guys more updates as the casting rounds out.
