So this is the trend. This is what we do now. This is the new thing. We start golf tournaments like shit then battle our way back, make it exciting, get everybody’s hopes up, but ultimately come up short because we had too much ground to make up. Sad. I heard a stat that of the 16 opening rounds Tiger’s played this year, we’ve failed to break par in 13 of them. 13/16 par or higher. Not great. We’re supposed to be the greatest golfer of all time. Not great.

Today’s start wasn’t just poor but also bizarre. Very bizarre.

Tiger seemed to have pulled the wrong fairway wood on the tee. Rumors were swirling that Joey Lacava mixed up the head covers; Tiger confirmed those rumors afterwards.

So Tiger backed off, switched, then readdressed and yank-hooked it into the junk. Bogey. Yikes.

He needed to make three different bogey putts outside of four feet. Could’ve gotten away from us QUICKLY today.

A positive: I’m a big fan of the new blade look on the greens. Much cleaner than that mallet thing, and although he still wasn’t rolling it like the Tiger of old, it looked a lot better.

And Tiger likey.

Should’ve been an early cash in on 11. This ball can’t miss the hole.

However, the blade did finally deliver with this par save on Tiger’s 17th.

Today’s stats.

The good news is no one’s gone crazy low today. 4-under the best thus far. The bad news is we stink at starting golf tournaments and have a lot of ground to make up. The other bad news is that this is a busy ass stretch for Tiger and we’re not a chipper 22-years-old anymore.

We’re back at 1:16 pm est tomorrow. Let’s get hot.

PS — Not a Stanford guy, but this thing is fire flames.
