Jets Agree To Trade Teddy Bridgewater To The Saints For A 3rd Round Pick
So this just happened. I was finishing up a 53-man roster projection blog when my phone started blowing up with the news. Am I mad I have to go back and adjust a significant portion of it? Absolutely not.
We all knew this was coming, it was just a matter of when. Some people wanted Teddy Bridgewater to start the regular season until Darnold was a little more prepared, but that’s just an idiotic take; Darnold is ready, and Bridgewater is officially gone.
I’ll admit, I didn’t expect the New Orleans Saints to be the team to finally pony up and make a good enough offer, but as I think about it now it definitely makes sense. Drew Brees is old, I don’t know if you’ve heard. He’s old. He can still ball, but adding Teddy Bridgewater to their QB room gives them a clear cut guy to step in under center when Brees’ quality of play starts to significantly drop off.
Jets fans should be satisfied with the return as well. Adding a 3rd round pick, especially after what we had to give up in order to move up in the most recent NFL draft, is an incredible value for a guy who obviously had no future with our organization.
The best part about this trade is apparently how the news was delivered to the Jets roster, including Bridgewater himself, as they travel today to Philly for tomorrow night’s final preseason game.
I’m sure a lot of it is simply the way the tweet is worded, but thinking about the entire team being packed on a bus, the bus pulling over while the announcement that Teddy Bridgewater has been traded comes over the PA system, followed by Teddy slowly walking off the bus, bags in hand, before turning around and waving goodbye to his now former-teammates is laugh out loud funny.
