Cam Neely Once Pretended To Be Sea Bass From Dumb And Dumber After A Bruins Win To Pump The Team Up

So we had Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug on Spittin’ Chiclets this week. A great dude who is coming off a career year. We were happy for him to take some time out of his day to come and do an interview with us before he headed off to Cape Cod. Torey told a lot of cool stories this week, but one stood out in particular. One that involved team President and the former “star” of Dumb and Dumber as ‘Sea Bass’, Cam Neely.

Neely was featured in the 1994 film Dumb and Dumber and played the role of Sea Bass. Which has led to the legendary line “Kick His Ass, Sea Bass”. But unfortunately, ever since Neely has taken over as President of the Boston Bruins, his public image, at least in Boston, hasn’t necessarily been in the best. Couple bad trades and missing the playoffs will do that to you in Boston.

So with Krug on, the guys figured they’d ask about Cam, so he told a story about two seasons ago when they made the playoffs after missing out the previous year.

Krug: When Backes came to town, he was great, you know, he kind of, he does a lot of good things in the locker room, like keeping people involved and stuff. So he gave the Cam a heads up that the boys love the Sea Bass thing.

Whitney: Really!?

Krug: Yeah, we had missed the playoffs for a year or two, and we had just clinched the playoffs. So Backs was like “Hey Cam, go do something” he gets everyone quiet and everyone thinks he is going to say something serious and he goes… 

Krug: “WHO’S THE DEAD MAN WHO THREW THE SALT SHAKER”

The stuff of true legends. And it’s funny. Growing up, Cam Neely was one of the most respected people in Boston. My parents always talked about the Neely house and how great of a hockey player he was. Now, all you hear is that Neely sucks in the front office and local radio idiots trashing the guy. And people forget how likeable the guy actually is. I mean, he was putting up 50 tucks a year while getting roles in Dumb and Dumber, how awesome is that? Guy would be a super star in todays age.

So before you go trashing Neely or anyone for that matter. There is a lot of funny shit that goes on behind the scenes that us normal people don’t know about. And if the boys love to play for him and he knows how to get them riled up, then i’m all in on him too.

And honestly, Neely is a pretty fucking good actor. Let’s hope we see a return of Sea Bass in the future.
