This MMA Analyst's Breakdown Of The Incredible Hulk vs Thanos From 'Infinity War' Is Fascinating Stuff
It took all of five minutes for me to know that this year’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was going to live up to the hype when I first saw it in theaters on opening night, and that’s thanks to this quick little fight scene between The Incredible Hulk and Thanos. Up to this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hulk has always been the ace in the hole for our favorite heroes. Whenever shit started to look real dire for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, somebody’d drop the “We’ve got a Hulk” line, and that big green bastard saved the day…until The Great Titan stood before him.
Hulk quickly pressured Thanos and was able to unleash a small fury, but as soon as Thanos realized what was happening, he took control and unleashed what is possibly the most calculated, mixed martial arts-esque attack in superhero movie history. It was such a major “oh shit” moment, where ten years worth of of build up was shut down at the snap of a finger (not literally, obviously…well, I mean, later on, sure, but I’m just making an analogy right here-AHHHH forget it just pretend I said at the drop of a hat or something) that I knew this movie wasn’t fucking around one bit. And as an the die hard MMA fan I am, I was honestly just geeking out at the fact that Thanos fought like prime Fedor or something.
Here, we’ve got Robin Black – the most eccentric and enthusiastic analyst the sport has to offer – breaking it down as part of his ‘One-Minute BREAKDOWN’ series on Twitter (which is worth throwing him follow in and of itself for) and it. is. FASCINATING. Thanos’ fighting style was WAY more calculated than I ever realized, and that’s coming from a guy who’s watched this scene over and over and over again over the past few months and took notice of how technical it was upon first viewing! The blocks, the jab set ups…it’s truly crazy how much thought and work had to have gone into this, and I think it’s worth a watch even as a non-fight fan/non-superhero fan.
So as Mr. Black would say…enjoy the hostilities, my friends.
