Pitted: Moto Grand Prix Racer Surfs Bike To Safety During Crash
Once when it was sprinkling out I went too fast down a hill on my killer banana seat bike & my shoelace wrapped around the pedal. Always the smoothest, I skidded out into a ditch & tore a bunch of ligaments in my left leg. Pro Grand Prix Moto-racer Tetsuta Nagashima, 26, probably wouldn’t have that problem.
From The Sun:
The Japan rider came off his Kalex machine at high-speed during second practice in Assen, Holland in June this year. After being rushed to hospital, Nagashima was found to have severely injured his left hand and was flown to Barcelona for surgery. Nagshima has been racing in Moto2 since 2013 – recording a best championship position of 26th last season. However, the rider has performed even better this year and currently sits 24th with eight races still to go.
The accident happened earlier this summer but the video of him ‘surfing’ on his bike is making the rounds again with the Austrian GP taking place over the weekend. (Won by Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo.)
Nagashima is still recovering from the surgery & did not participate in the race this weekend. Luckily he’s expected to make a full recovery & the crash wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Might be because he already has a little surfing experience?
