UFC 229 Is Officially The Suga Show: Sean O'Malley Confirms His Addition To The Card

OH HELL YEAH. Suga Sean and Conor Mac on the same card is what dreams are made of. A main event to start the show and a main event to end the show indeed.

UFC 229 is truly shaping up to be a worthy Red Panty Night, with everything listed below, the rumored Derrick Lewis vs Alexander Volkov bout, AND an O’Malley fight on the pay-per-view.

Now if you don’t recognize the name “Suga” Sean O’Malley, you’re in for a treat. Allow me to explain.

Sean O’Malley was a standout fighter from Week 2 of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series because of the phenomenal performance he put on over Alfred Khashakyan, in which he displayed a very Conor McGregor-esque style, and capped off with a devastating knockout and a blunt with Snoop D-O-Double-G, a special commentator on the series at the time.

“Suga” then took the MMA world by storm, because, uh, how couldn’t he?

He made his UFC debut last December opposite Terrion Ware, where he easily picked up a unanimous decision victory, and then returned to the octagon in March where he defeated Andre Soukhamthath via unanimous decision as well, but in that fight, his right foot was badly injured. He completed his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan while laying on the canvas, telling Rogan that he, quote, “fucking loved him” in the process, and winning over the hearts of everyone in the world watching UFC 222 that night.

Since then, he’s been letting his foot recover, he picked up Fortnite streaming and has his own Twitch page (here at Barstool we’re very jealous of that), and you’d have to assume he’s been smoking a boatload of pot. Sean and his teammate/best friend Tim Welch have appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience, and were featured on Will Harris’ “Anatomy of a Fighter” docu-series, which I’d recommend heavily if you’re interested in having a new favorite fighter.

He’s sure as shit Slim Daddy Trent’s #1! Trent can’t get enough of him!

I have NO IDEA what my favorite part of the Rogan podcast even is. It may be the legitimate fight talk. It may be Sean O’Malley talking about how he hating fighting, drugs, and tattoos until a few years ago. It may be Joe talking about his first time smoking, while he’s stoned, and saying “WOOOOOOW” like Owen Wilson over and over again. It may be Tim Welch and Sean O’Malley repeatedly telling Joe that they view him as a father figure and that they treat his podcasts like they’re college courses, while he got uncomfortable. I don’t know. It was just an endless well of soundbites, interesting conversation, stoned banter, and everything you could ever want.

While the ‘Anatomy of a Fighter’ episodes don’t have as many quality moments as the JRE, they did give us a back-and-forth with O’Malley and the cameraman discussing how Suga’s got two girlfriends and why that should be socially acceptable.

So there ya go. That’s your homework, due October 6th. Fall in love with “Suga” Sean O’Malley. Let me know when that assignment is complete. It shouldn’t be too difficult.
