Evangeline Lilly Says on 'LOST' They Forced Her to Do Nude Scenes Against Her Will

SourceEvangeline Lilly has been open in the past about the “pretty dark time” she experienced while filming Lost, the fantastical ABC series that brought the British Columbia native to fame. Now, in a new interview, the actress claims she was pushed into filming partially nude scenes for the show.

Speaking to The Lost Boys podcast published Tuesday, the 38-year-old — who played heroine Kate — went into detail about her painful past on set of the popular show.

“In season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter,” Lilly claimed. “And I was mortified and I was trembling when it finished. I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on do a very formidable, very strong scene thereafter.”

“In season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control. And I failed to control it again,” she continued. “So I then said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want — I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again.’ And I didn’t.”

First things first. As a long time and consistent Evangeline Lilly fan, I can’t see any reason why she’d have a problem doing simulated, TV-14, prime time broadcast network, partial nudity. Back in the early days of Barstool becoming a daily blog, her screencaps and paparazzi shots were a staple of our content.

And now, a good dozen or more years later, she’s still in peak form. She could’ve dropped off the face of the Earth like a lot of actresses who achieve “It Girl” status (Where have you gone, Shannon Elizabeth?) but she’s hung in there. has been on top of her game in the Ant-Man films and even practically made the Hobbit trilogy that triggered my nerdrage tolerable. Practically. None of which is actually the point of this blog, so apologies for the digression.

The actual point I’m getting at is this is another example of how Hollywood can fuck right off. It’s one thing if you hire someone to take their clothes off. You advertise that the job involves nude modeling, then you get women who are OK with nude modeling applying. And there’s no issue with said nudity. Everyone holds up their end of the bargain and comes away happy. But name another profession in the world where three years into someone’s employment you can say “You have to show everybody your tits” and she has to do it. If you did that at your law firm, muffler shop or Bed, Bath & Beyond, you’d end up with a court-ordered ankle bracelet. JJ Abrams’ crew does it and he ends up with Star Trek so he can wipe out the entire Vulcan race for no reason and Star Wars so he can just do a lazy remake of New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

Again, I’d be ecstatic if Evangeline Lilly wanted to do nudity. But she didn’t. And they forced her to in spite of her trembling and crying her eyes out, which is some really sick shit. This from the same entertainment industry that can’t congratulate themselves enough over how much they support and empower women. But who, if one of their own complains about not getting paid as much as a male actor, the showrunners kill off her character:

But then it’s Barstool that’s the real problem with the world. Because we post pictures of super attractive women who want to have their super attractive photos posted. Pay the female employees equitably. And don’t force crying actresses to drop trou against their will just because it’s good for business. These are just two more stories to keep in mind next awards season when millionaires decked out in designer clothes and blood diamonds that cost more than your house start lecturing us about their virtue.
