RED ALERT! ...PATRICK STEWART & JEAN-LUC PICARD ARE COMING BACK TO STAR TREK
Hoooooooly FUCK! This is simply unbelievable news I really never expected to see. And it is HUGE. One the greatest actors of our generation coming back to one of the greatest roles in TV history. Some/many/most may scoff at that statement and while I don’t expect you to be a hyped up, geeked out Trekkie like me, the resume of Jean-Luc Picard and TNG speaks for itself. Don’t even try to tell me that Star Trek: The Next Generation isn’t up there with any of the all-time TV shows humans gawk about. This is a HISTORIC comeback.
7 seasons, 178 episodes, 18 Emmys, 20 million average viewers, and more than ample life in syndication along with now streaming on Netflix. Me and KenJac were just talking on Gametime about how good TNG is at just being an entertaining action drama, sci-fi and weird aliens aside. And at the center of that goodness? Motherfucking Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Don’t let the bald head fool you folks, he FUCKS. In every way possible.
And he’s a true man of honor, integrity, and virtue. The leader we all need right now. Goddamnit I love this leanly muscled man. COME!
In most cases, seeing an iconic character return after all this time would likely be a total letdown. Just a quick shill for views and dufflebags of cash before a quick 8 episode exit. But I trust Patrick Stewart supremely and know that he wouldn’t be coming back to this if it wasn’t going to be amazing. He has no reason too.
Another reason I heavily believe in this working out is there’s NO ONE more irritable or harder to please than Star Trek fans. You’d have to be a madmen to try and pull the wool over their steel visors. They far surpass Star Warriors on the nerd rage scale… Just haven’t had the mainstream opportunity lately to let it all out. But Patrick Stewart’s career proves over and over again how GOOD he is at being majestically entertaining, and in a such a crazy variety of ways. ENGAGE!
That scene from Extras is some of the funniest self mockery I’ve ever seen and it’s so unexpected how damn hilarious our seemingly rigid Sir Patty Stew can be. While also being emotionally crushing in something like Logan. Or terrifying in The Green Room.
Sidnote I highly recommend Blunt Talk (RIPIP) on Starz if you wanna see Patrick Stewart go absolutely all out comedically. Honestly like a Frank Reynolds role for him, he takes it to the LIMIT.
Can’t wait to see what gets cooked up for Jean-Luc going forward and brilliant move by CBS getting him locked down. I still haven’t seen the new Star Trek series they put out last year but am firmly in the jackpot for streaming it now.
Best believe Riker, La Forge, Worf, Troy, Data and Bevvvverly will be showing up on this new Star Trek series too. Just please don’t ruin them all by making them into pathetic unlikable cowards like Riann did to Luke Skywalker. That was simply the worst and I WILL have my bat’leth ready just in case.
