What's Left For Dave Grohl To Do In The Music Industry? How About A Half Hour Long Song Where He Plays Every Instrument?
LoudWire- The Foo Fighters frontman told Madison.com that he’s planning to put together a 25-minute instrumental song, composed and played entirely by himself. “I have a studio, EastWest in L.A., where I’m going to set up an expanse of instruments — several drum kits, a load of guitars, bass, rhythm, and lead,” stated Grohl.
He continued, “I’ll hit play and the clock will start ticking. I will record the first drum part, then I will run to the next drum set and play another drum part that will record over the first. Then I will do the same with all the guitars, all assigned to a different moment in the instrumental.”
And given Grohl’s fascination with documenting his projects in recent years, the cameras will be rolling. “The best part is we’ll film everything with multiple cameras so by the end of it you will see and hear one song being played for 25 minutes, with six different Dave Grohls playing every note, on every single instrument, all the way through in one take,” explained the singer.
Grohl says that thinking about the project has led to some sleepless nights as he tries to write and memorize all the instruments, but he’s set to attack the project upon his return home.
The Foo frontman says he’s not worried about the reaction to the project and is more interested in the challenge, adding, “If I want to write a 25-minute instrumental, write all the music, play all the instruments, film it and then, guess what, maybe never even release it? I’ll do it. Just because I can.”
Today in “Why The World Loves Dave Grohl”, the Foo Fighters frontman is now just gonna spring a 25-minute instrumental song on us out of nowhere where he plays every instrument, and records the whole session in one take.
Did we ask for this? No. Does he care? No. Do we care that he doesn’t care? No. He’s just gonna do it because he can and that’s what makes him the god damn rockstar he is.
If you’ve ever seen Foo Fighters live you know they have a tendency to jam on stage, turning every one of their, say, 3-4 minute songs into 6-7 minute epics. Dave Grohl, as well as the rest of the Foo Fighters, just have that special something about them that allows incredible rock n roll music that they’ve NEVER rehearsed, NEVER played before, and never even THOUGHT ABOUT to emanate from their fingertips as naturally and casually as you or I walk down the street. Now, I’m not saying they’re the only people that have this power, or the most talented musicians in the world for it either, but they are one of the only modern rock bands who I feel execute it right and still have that “raw” feel about them. Dave Grohl, the frontman and mastermind behind the Foo’s success, now just deciding to say “You know all the time we spend just jamming and trying shit on the fly at our shows? Well I’m gonna do that for 25 minutes and if you wanna listen, go ahead.”, is one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard and it has instantly become my most anticipated piece of music for the rest of the year. Luckily, though, I’ve only gotta wait 9 days.
