It Turns Out Carmelo Anthony Failed With The Thunder Because "It Wasn't A Good Fit"

Oklahoma City Thunder v New Orleans Pelicans

So ESPN did a piece on Carmelo Anthony’s legendary stint with the Hawks and how he dealt with the process of being bought out before likely heading to Houston. But the real guts of the story was how Anthony saw his time in Oklahoma City unfold:

Anthony said ultimately things didn’t work out with the Thunder because of timing. “At the end of the day, it wasn’t a good fit,” he said. “I think last year — and I haven’t talked about this before — everything was just so rushed, going to the team for media day and the day before training camp. Them guys already had something in place, and then I come along in the 25th hour like, oh s—, Melo just come on and join us. Like, you can figure it out since you’ve been around the game for a long time. That’s why it was so inconsistent. At times, I had to figure it out on my own rather than somebody over there or people over there helping me.”

Damn, you just hate to see something like this happen to a guy like Carmelo Anthony. After years of being unfairly scapegoated as the face of the Knicks, he lands on the Thunder and everything is once again a disaster from the jump. What are the odds? Some guys just have no luck, you know? Carmelo Anthony apparently fits in with NBA teams as well as I fit in regularly-sized clothes. I can’t imagine how hard it has been for him to #StayMe7o last season. Trying to fit in with a bunch of new coworkers in a new city is tough for regular old idiots like you and I. But doing it with a basketball team literally the day before media day and weeks before the season because you wouldn’t expand the list of teams that you would allow a trade to must be tough. What was Carmelo supposed to do to take the stress off of him after arriving to a new team shortly before the season began?

Oops, please disregard that video. It should have been deleted from the blog. All of #Me7o’s struggles in OKC can be attributed to timing and being in a rush. What’s he supposed to do landing on a team that had the previous season’s MVP, a third-team All NBA player, and Steven Adams so close to the tip of the season? If #Me7o gets traded to the Thunder in June like Paul George did, they probably go 74-8 and win a championship. S7iding door moments, man.
