Against All Odds, Dennis Rodman Appears To Have Bombed At The Roast Of Bruce Willis

Hollywood Reporter- The Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis did not go well for Dennis Rodman.

The ex-basketball star and reality TV personality struggled through most of his time on Saturday during the taping of the roast in Hollywood.

It got particularly tense when Rodman made a joke about the North Korean leader and his pal, Kim Jong-un.

Trying to give Willis a hard time about some of his movie choices, Rodman said, “You keep making these bomb movies like Kim, but at least he is smart enough not to release his.”

That did not go over well and elicited boos.

Rodman struggled in general and apologized a number of times to the audience and guests onstage as he flubbed his lines.

Willis closed the roast with a strong declaration: “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie!”

This year’s Comedy Central roast was taped on Saturday night, and the subject was Bruce Willis. He’s a great target and seems universally loved in Hollywood, which can be fun but I prefer when they roast someone polarizing because then you know there’s some truth and intention behind the jokes (see: Justin Bieber). Comedy Central usually chooses a mixed bag of comedians and famous friends to roast. In addition to Rodman, this was the lineup:

Other roasters included Nikki Glaser, Lil Rel Howery, Dom Irrera, Edward Norton, Kevin Pollak, Jeff Ross, Willis’ Moonlighting co-star Cybill Shepherd, Martha Stewart and Rodman. Demi Moore also stopped by.

Nikki Glaser, Jeff Ross, Dom Irrera, Lil Rel, and Kevin Pollack all crushed I’m sure. These are veteran comics who don’t pull any punches. The roasts are fun for them and they’re experienced when it comes to eviscerating people in creative ways. Then you have Martha Stewart, Cybill Shepherd, and Edward Norton–all of whom are probably friends of Bruce Willis. They probably had a team of comedians write most of their jokes for them, but that doesn’t take away from their performance. Martha Stewart stole the show at the Bieber roast, and everyone is saying that Ed Norton did the same on Saturday. I’m not surprised because he’s pretty hilarious, in addition to being a great actor. When he hosted SNL, his monologue impressions were incredible, especially his Woody Allen and Woody Harrelson (he reprised his Woody Allen for the entirety of Sausage Party).

But then you have Dennis Rodman. Comedy Central often throws one wildcard into the lineup, and it’s usually someone who has garnered a lot of recent headlines. For the Trump roast, this was “The Situation” from Jersey Shore, and he bombed. If you haven’t seen this, it’s one of the most uncomfortable clips on the internet:

Not for nothing, watching Trump’s response at that roast is SURREAL now. Not bad, not great, just… weird. Dude has been the same guy his entire life, and he didn’t change anything when he became president. No further comments.

Early reports are that Rodman pulled a Situation on Saturday. Honestly, I don’t think it’s his fault. He shouldn’t be up there. He’s not a comedian, his brain probably looks like a quilt someone used to smother a fire, and he’s best friends with America’s biggest enemy in the world. He’s in the news for the wrong reasons. I almost, almost, feel bad for him.

“You keep making these bomb movies like Kim, but at least he is smart enough not to release his.”

Can’t believe that didn’t play. Tune in July 29th for a dose of cringe that will take a couple years off your life.
