Surprise! The NCAA Is About To Make Another Incredibly Stupid Decision

Yesterday, Jeff Goodman talked about changes coming to AAU basketball and the NCAA with summer hoops. When the commission on college basketball presented everything one thing they came up with was to try and get rid of the AAU circuits and have the NCAA produce essentially their own camps.

Wait, the NCAA taking money away from grassroots in order to do it themselves? Shocking. I, for one, would never think that the NCAA would do something like that? Do something that would only benefit the NCAA? Not my organization. That’s not the NCAA I know.

What Goodman is saying will likely happen will be the NCAA will fund four regional camps, staggered so that everyone can attend, and try to get rid of the AAU Tournaments. The expectation according to NBC Sports is that coaches will be able to nominate up to 35 players.

Here’s what I don’t like about it. This is about all the other players that get exposure from Nike, Adidas and Under Armour. A guy like Jevon Carter likely wouldn’t be invited to this regional camp. He did however make a name for himself and get a scholarship to West Virginia because Huggins and staff were there recruiting someone else. It takes away the ability for more of that to happen.

Call me skeptical about all of this. I just don’t trust the NCAA, I don’t trust what the commission is truly trying to accomplish and I simply think the NCAA/NABC needs to figure something else out. Just simply not a fan of this.
