Melania's Coat Is Cool, And People Have Lost Their Minds
NY Times- “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?”
When the first lady, Melania Trump, on an unannounced humanitarian visit to a children’s shelter in Texas, strode onto her airplane in an olive green Zara army jacket with those words scrawled in faux white graffiti on the back, it sent the watching world into what might be called, with some understatement, a meltdown.
“Insensitive,” “heartless” and “unthinking” were some of the words hurled through the digisphere about the choice.
“It’s a jacket,” her communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement to reporters. “There was no hidden message.”
The jacket, after all, which is reportedly sold out and is not from the current season, retailed for $39. It may be the least expensive garment the first lady has worn while representing the administration.
By now, we’ve all seen the coat that Melania wore yesterday. Everyone is trying to figure out why Melania wore it, and at whom the message was directed. What doesn’t she care about? Who is the “u” in “do u?” There have been so many theories, so many takes, so many heads exploding. The left-wing pansies are saying it was an insensitive statement of her indifference towards the children she was on her way to see at a shelter in Texas. I’m fairly sure that’s incorrect. What the hell is the point of doing visible humanitarian work if you completely contradict that image with a coat saying you don’t care about those people? That’s a total waste of time. If you really want those kids to know you don’t care about them, don’t go. Simple.
On the other side, her husband says:
I’m pretty sure that’s wrong too. Almost guarantee it. Melania didn’t buy a $39 Zara coat for the sake of expressing her distaste for the media. What’s more, Melania doesn’t give two shits about Donnie or what he expects from her. She wouldn’t hold his hand at the inauguration and she’s aware of the whole Stormy Daniels situation. I’ll go out on a limb here and say that not only does Melania not share a bed with her husband, but she probably sleeps in different wing. Maybe even a bomb bunker underground, to get as far away from him as possible.
I don’t know why, but I like Melania. She seems strong to me. Does exactly the bare minimum to uphold the idea that we have a married couple in the White House, but won’t go so far as to sacrifice her dignity by fawning over him. Wears shit that makes her happy, knowing it’s going to cause a firestorm on the internet. Maybe she has an ulterior motive, maybe it’s a message towards someone. It might also be that she likes the coat because it looks cool. I kinda dig it, and I don’t like bold lettering spray-painted on clothing ever. But the only person who knows why she wore it, and who it’s meant to target (if anyone), is Melania. And that is driving people NUTS.
