The Washington Capitals Need To Stop Living In The Past
Here’s the thing. I’m really happy that Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals got to have themselves a giant ass party this weekend. Nobody deserves to go on a legendary bender after finally winning a championship than Ovi does. Everything about how he celebrated this weekend was perfect and I’m genuinely happy for the guy.
With that being said…
It’s over now, okay? The 2017-18 NHL season is over. We’re just 11 days out from the draft. We’re just 3 weeks out from free agency. You guys won the Stanley Cup last year. Get over it. What have you done for me lately? What have the 2018-19 Washington Capitals team won? Absolutely nothing, that’s what. You don’t see Eagles fans walking around still bragging about winning a Super Bowl 4 months after the fact, do you? No. Because we would never. We understand that it was a remarkable accomplishment but that’s all it was. An accomplishment on February 4, 2018 when the Philadelphia Eagles dismantled the New England Patriots to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history by the score of 41-33. A win that not only altered the history of the Eagles, but the history of the NFL in general as it appears to have been a catalyst of sorts toward the destruction of the Patriots dynasty. A win that will go down as quite possibly the most improbable Super Bowl victory of all time that symbolized the heart and the resiliency of this city.
Eagles fans don’t talk about that anymore because we realize that a Super Bowl win back in February means absolutely nothing when it comes to this upcoming season. And that’s how I’d like for the Washington Capitals and their fans to act from here on out. Be proud of the accomplishment but move on already. And while you’re in the process of moving on, feel free to purchase a flag.
