If There's One Person Who Can Fix All Of The Sixers' Problems Right Now, It's Grayson Allen
I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the “incompetence” of the Philadelphia 76ers organization for not firing Bryan Colangelo already. But I’ll tell you what. This is quite possibly the smartest move I’ve ever seen in all of professional sports.
Clearly everybody hates Bryan Colangelo and the Sixers ownership right now. But do you know who everybody hates more? Grayson Allen. And now this is where bringing him in for a predraft workout is pure genius. Because it’s obvious that the Sixers don’t want to fire Colangelo. However, they need something to soften the blow because if they just announce that Colangelo is keeping his job on its own, there will be riots on Broad Street. So here’s what they do–they bring in Grayson Allen for a workout. That causes mass hysteria amongst Sixers fans. People are setting themselves up for a world in which the Sixers not only keep Bryan Colangelo but also end up drafting Grayson Allen as well. And nobody wants that. But then that’s where this all becomes “bait & switch”. Because the Sixers don’t have any real intentions of drafting Grayson Allen. They’re just using him.
So when the time is right, they will announce almost simultaneously that Bryan Colangelo will be keeping his job but that Grayson Allen is off of the Sixers’ draft board. That way Sixers fans can be upset over the Colangelo decision, while also being somewhat relieved that Grayson Allen will not be a member of the organization. If you have to choose the lesser of two evils, that scenario right there is the one you go with. So just when it seemed like all hope was lost, in comes Grayson Allen to save the day.
