The Trailer For Johnny Depp’s New Movie Debunking The Biggie Smalls Conspiracy Theory Just Dropped And It Looks WILD

Source – Actor Johnny Depp hunts Notorious B.I.G.’s killer in the first trailer for City of Lies – the film based on the rapper’s 1997 murder.

In the movie, Depp portrays LAPD detective Russell Poole who was one of the lead investigators in the murder case of the rapper born Christopher Wallace.

The movie is based on Randall Sullivan’s non-fiction book LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. It was initially titled LAbyrinth, but was switched to City of Lies.

Spoiler Alert: they don’t catch him. I could be wrong, this could be a Robert Durst Jinx situation, but I’m pretty sure we know how this story ends. I’m still going to watch it though. Biggie Smalls was the sound track to my white suburban upbringing. And for some reason Johnny Depp has a Boston accent so I’m all in.  I’ve already hyped it up in my head. The trailer makes it seem like the entire LAPD was behind the murder. Which is a theory that has been floated around before but never fully explored by the movie industry. From what I gather, Johnny Depp essentially plays the same character as Russell Crow in American Gangster. He’s the good cop who gets cock blocked by a team of corrupt cops headed up by the dude who played the villain in The Mask.

Good to see he’s back to work. Chances are this is going to be a massive hit. The only person I can see getting upset about it is the cop who couldn’t figure it out. Guy spent TWENTY YEARS trying to solve the case and got literally nothing done. He’s either the worst cop of all time or a pawn in a much bigger conspiracy theory. I’m not going to make up my mind yet but I will after I see the movie. Hopefully Johnny can solve the case!

PS: If the trailer interested you check out The Seven Five. It’s easily one of my favorite movies of all time.
