Eternity Is A Perfect Date Movie & Other Reviews
LounisPhotography. Shutterstock Images. There are some decent choices of things to see in the theaters this Thanksgiving weekend. Eternity is right up there as something for everyone and one of the better date movies to come out all year. Wicked: For Good is unfortunately plagued by the same lousy storytelling in the second act of the Broadway musical (and I liked the first movie!). Mini-Reviews of both movies below along with Die My Love, Chainsaw Man, Stitch Head and If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You.
Eternity is a sweet movie with likable leads with its biggest weakness (ironically) is that the movie feels like it will never end.
I did still enjoy this and recommend it. It’s more creative than most rom-coms and also has winning performances by Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olson and Callum Turner.
The problem is that it likes its own characters far too much to make the necessary tough decisions that the movie creates. This could have easily lost 30 minutes of its runtime and the movie wouldn’t have missed much at all.
This is still a movie I recommend and the kind of thing that I wish we’d get more of. It’s entertaining with characters you care about and something that’s for pretty much everyone. That’s a rare breed these days.

Wicked: For Good being a drop off from the first movie just makes sense. The musical has the same issue. The needless quest to tie everything to the Wizard of Oz forces the story to make bizarre and rushed choices.
The first movie works because it’s just about Glinda and Elphaba. We don’t need to see who becomes the Tin Man because we don’t give a shit. We can just enjoy a natural story.
This whole thing is hamstrung into thinking everything needs to tie together when that was never necessary. I’ve seen some people say this just should have been one movie. I think that would have been even more rushed.
Ariana Grande does an especially nice job but her being a major Oscar contender for this silly movie seems ridiculous.

Die My Love is a heartbreaking look at postpartum depression that is one of the toughest watches of 2025. You’re watching a woman who desperately needs help despite a well-meaning but ineffective support system.
Jennifer Lawrence gives a fearless performance and absolutely deserves an Oscar nomination. Robert Pattinson and Sissy Spacek are also both very good. But this is a movie with no intention of telling a story. That makes it impossible for me to recommend.
If you like a personal story/character study, you may appreciate this movie more than I do. This was just more frustrating and upsetting more than anything else.

Chainsaw Man is yet another anime movie that deals with high school age people hunting demons. Why do all of these movies have such similar plots? Is there this much demand for this same type of story?
I’ll give Chainsaw Man some credit as it does try to develop characters and have some semblance of a story. In this one, Chainsaw Man (who is a demon hunter) falls in love with a girl who is a demon that is tricking him.
If you spend too much time thinking about this, it all falls apart. This demon is working at a cafe for apparently a good chunk of time. How long was she keeping this up just to trick Chainsaw Man? Why not just kill Chainsaw Man when he’s not looking instead of skinny dipping with him in a high school pool?
I guess I liked this better than the other anime releases this year but not by much. I’m so tired of these demons.

Stitch Head feels like if Monsters, Inc. was a refurbished phone. It does the basic job but it moves slow and never feels like something new.
I don’t know who this is for. It’s moves at a glacial pace at times and I don’t see how kids wouldn’t be painfully bored at times. I know I was. That’s not to say it’s a bad movie because it’s not. The animation is solid and it’s not annoying. It’s just kind of dull.
Having The Creature look exactly like if the characters from Monster, Inc. is certainly an unusual choice. Especially in a movie where the whole premise is the monsters aren’t the bad guy.
I’m not recommending this movie but like I said, your kids could watch a lot worse. They also won’t want to rewatch this boring movie.

If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You is an intentionally uncomfortable look at the dark elements of motherhood. I didn’t enjoy a second of this (you’re not supposed to) but art should make you think. That counts for a lot.
Rose Byrne is incredible in this and absolutely should get a Best Actress Oscar nomination. It’s incredibly challenging role yet we sympathize and get frustrated with this character. But we never lose hope in who she is. That’s a really tough thing to pull off here and she does.
Conan O’Brien gives a strong performance as a cold therapist. For having such a friendly demeanor on television, it was interesting seeing him in such a different light. I hope he acts in more projects in the future.
If you want to be challenged, then this is worth watching. But I also get just wanting to be entertained. On those nights, there are better options out there.
