Davis Mills Doesn't Want To Hear Anything About A QB Competition With CJ Stroud - He Knows He's Made To Be The Texans Backup Who Saved The Season
The moment the Texans won last night, we heard immediately about a quarterback competition. Do you really bench Davis Mills who won the last 3 games with Stroud out with this concussion and gave the Texans life? It's not like Stroud has looked awesome lately, but it's still CJ Stroud. Well, luckily Davis Mills took matters into his own hands.
This is the exact sort of answer a lifelong backup quarterback should give. It's why the Texans want a Davis Mills on the roster. He knows his job is to hang out, come fill in for a few games, win games, save the season and then go back to the sidelines. Not a bad gig if you think about. Dude has job security, he's beloved by fans and doesn't have to take massive hits every single Sunday. That seems like the biggest win here.
The Texans aren't going to win the AFC South, but they are more than alive for a wild card spot. It's a weird year with the current playoffs in the AFC not having the Ravens, Chiefs or Bengals. That opens up spots for teams like the Jags or Texans to steal another spot. You go from thinking about draft spots, looking at mock drafts and now you're mapping out the rest of the schedule to see who you can beat and what magic number you can get for wins to make a playoff spot. Then you know you're probably playing that first playoff game on Saturday because the AFC South needs to be in that spot. Pretty sure it's an unwritten rule at this point.
Either way, don't ask Davis Mills about a quarterback competition. He knows his role, which is the biggest win you can have for a backup quarterback.
